ICFF 2019 – Press Release

May 13, 2019

ICFF at the Javitz Center, Booth #484, May 19-22, 2019

NEW YORK, NY – May 13, 2019 — DESU DESIGN brings its unique selection of minimalist, modern, entryway accessories to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City, Booth #484, May 19-22, 2019. This award-winning firm — known for combining elegant, playful and unadorned luxury with functionality and applying them to unexpected and under-served niche areas of home and industrial design — is debuting new entryway products and new finishes for best-selling items:

DESU’s Symbol Coat Rack, Pendulum Door Knocker series, and LYM Door Guard are essential items whose sleek designs double as minimalist art.

“When developing new products, we often look to underdeveloped and often mundane categories, where our minimalist design aesthetic can provide our clients and customers with unexpected choices,” said DESU’s founder and lead designer David E. Scott. “We’re thrilled to be at ICFF to put these versatile designs in the hands of architects and designers. The designs compliment a wide range of styles and materials, serve an essential purpose while supporting dynamic and unified designs.”

DESU’s best selling Symbol Coat Rack has a rich new drama in a Noir finish. The Symbol in Noir features a Matte Black housing, punctuated by Graphite brushed-satin hooks. When not in use, the Symbol’s hooks lie flat with the surface, highlighting the visual rhythm of the piece. When needed, the hooks flip down smoothly and reveal its organizational function. Originally designed for the entryway, the Symbol Coat Rack is a welcome element in any room or environment where stylish storage is needed. DESU will also display the Symbol’s original finishes, Color and Monochrome.

In addition, DESU is introducing a new selection of finishes — developed with architects and designers in mind — for its Pendulum Door Knocker series. The AP Door Knocker, an apartment sized version of the original award-winning Pendulum, now features expanded finishes which compliment a broad spectrum of materiality, including Stainless Steel, Champagne, Brass, Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Gunmetal, and Diamond-Like Carbon Black. The AP Door Knocker is available with or without an integrated door viewer. Custom laser engraving for unit numbers is also available.

DESU will be introducing its LYM Door Guard – a unique, upscale take on entryway security hardware. The LYM is hardware worthy of a threshold, with an elegance and a smoothness that make it both visually and tactility pleasing. Machined from solid stainless steel, it represents a dramatic departure from the status quo. Offered in a variety of finishes.

ICFF is known as North America’s International platform for luxury design, and is the anchor event for NYCxDesign, New York City’s official citywide celebration of design.

WantedDesign 2016 Press Release

May 11, 2016

DESU DESIGN brings the Mercury to WantedDesign at Terminal Stores, Manhattan
NEW YORK, NY – May 11, 2016

DESU DESIGN presents the Mercury table, a precisely engineered sculptural piece fit for the world stage.

With shows throughout the city and spanning nearly two weeks, NYCxDESIGN 2016 rivals showings in Milan and London. At WantedDesign Manhattan, exhibitors hail from across the globe, and include Brooklyn’s own DESU DESIGN. Forget the image of a lone, bearded hipster; Brooklyn is an internationally recognized hub for design talent and technology. DESU DESIGN has been on the forefront of this scene since moving to the borough in 2000.

DESU DESIGN’s founder, David E. Scott, looks to the intersection of technology and the natural world when exploring forms and materials. Inspired by the effect of surface tension on a drop of mercury, DESU’s Mercury table presents a seamless curved form that is finished to perfection. Technical sophistication and exquisite craft give the Mercury table its edge, or rather, its curves.

The Mercury table’s mirror polished stainless steel top rests on a blackened steel base like a bead of water on a freshly waxed car. Elemental in its design and effect, the Mercury table is at once visually weighted and light. Conceived as a centerpiece, the table’s low and highly reflective surface is constantly changing as it incorporates the viewer, the light and its surroundings. Whether in a humming and vibrant public space, or a tranquil and airy home, the Mercury amplifies the qualities of its environment.

Founded in 1998, award-winning DESU DESIGN has built a reputation for work that is minimal, elegant and playful. DESU’s signature is simplicity of form and structure, and a reductive approach to the design process. DESU’s innovative products for the home consistently blur the boundary between art and design, and the studio has a decades-long reputation for fabrication expertise. With studios in Brooklyn, NY and Stratton, VT, DESU’s inspiration comes from the forms found in nature, the history of modern design, and the combined beauty of geometry and the machine.

Best known for the Symbol Coat Rack and 1-Line Spice Rack, the studio’s line includes furniture, outdoor sculptural seating, serving pieces and accessories. DESU’s production methods merge the finest materials, cutting edge technology, and the unmatched skill of the human hand. DESU DESIGN’s work can be purchased at and select retailers.

Luxurious Leather: NEW designs from OROPOPO & Alice Tacheny

October 21, 2015
We love quality leather for its durability, natural beauty, variation and raw appeal.  We’re proud to introduce two new designs that highlight the allure of leather.

Oropopo - Filly Basket in Natural

OROPOPO’s Filly Basket is like nothing else we have seen. Designed by Ka’rolė Mazeika and Grady Jaynes in their New Mexico studio, the Filly references an icon of the American West – an upturned Cowboy Hat. The lattice work pattern gives the basket a lightness while casting beautiful, intricate shadows.
2 Tasche Wall Pockets in Brown & Dark Brown
Alice Tacheny’s work embodies a clarity of form and understated grace, as demonstrated in the Tasche Wall Pocket. Constructed of thick latigo leather, folded into an envelope shape and hand stitched with waxed twine, the Tasche Wall Pocket is perfectly refined.
JZD Leather Link - flexible trivet or iPad holder
While not new to our site, JZD:MERCANTILE’s Leather Link iPad Stand is a superb companion to these other leather pieces, showing off the possibility of the material in a completely different way. When lying flat, the Link is a functional, durable multipurpose surface, but its links can be articulated into subtle positions to hold an iPad in place vertically or horizontally.
