What is certified renewable cellulose fiber and resin?
Certified renewable cellulose fiber and resin is made from sheets of paper that have been heated and compressed with resin to form a completely solid slab. The natural fiber and resin bond fully so the material does not release harmful gases into the air, or ‘off-gas’. The cellulose fiber used is harvested from sustainable, managed forests in North America. The slabs are heavy and durable, and to the touch are somewhere between wood and stone. As a testament to its durability, cellulose fiber and resin slabs are commonly used for eco-friendly kitchen countertops, and variations of the material have been used in the marine industry and in the construction of skateboard ramps.
What is “Solid Surface”?
Solid Surface refers to a material manufactured with high performance resin. The material can be fabricated using polyester or acrylic, white acrylic Surface being the choice material of DESU Design. Solid Surface differs from veneered surfaces in that, unlike veneered surfaces, Solid Surface has no superficial coating, and thus the color and consistency remain homogeneous throughout. Solid Surface is hygienic and non-porous, meaning it will not support the growth of bacteria. Normal cleaning requires nothing more than a damp cloth and a mild cleanser. To preserve the integrity of the material, avoid harsh and strongly acidic chemicals such as drain cleaners and paint removers when cleaning.
What is end grain?
End grain is the toughest part of the wood, which makes it ideal for cutting boards. Wood fibers are vertically oriented, so they “self-heal,” opening when perforated by a knife and closing up again after contact. This keeps your board looking new and your knives sharp for longer.
What is the proper care for my Larch Wood cutting board?
With proper care, Larch Wood cutting boards will last a lifetime. Depending on usage, Clapham’s Salad Bowl Finish (a food-safe mixture of mineral oil and beeswax) should be reapplied to all surfaces on a monthly basis.
